Houda Lemghari: The name some try to reduce to “Lekjaa’s wife”

Houda Lemghari: A political name that transcends stereotypes
Amid the reactions following the Authenticity and Modernity Party’s (PAM) announcement of its regional list leaders, the name Houda Lemghari emerged as one of the most controversial, not due to a lack of competence, but because of the constant linking of her political identity to the label of “wife of Delegate Minister Fouzi Lekjaa.” This reduction, seen by many observers as a belittling of the role of women in politics, overlooks a long career of field and technical work within party structures.
Competence forged in the “Ministry of Finance” away from quotas
Far from the spotlight, Houda Lemghari has built her professional path within the Ministry of Finance based on merit and recognized competence. She is not “the daughter or wife of someone,” but a technical executive who has climbed the ladder thanks to her academic training and field experience. This solid professional background is what led the PAM to include her in the Political Bureau since 2020, where she worked silently within specialized committees.
Why is her candidacy considered a “merit”?
Observers of political affairs believe that Houda Lemghari possesses leadership qualities that place her above many names who entered the political scene by “accident.” In addition to her experience in managing public affairs and finance, she is known as an upright and independent person, which explains why she and her family have remained away from the glitz despite the sensitive positions held by her husband, Fouzi Lekjaa.
Justice for women in politics
The attack on Houda Lemghari reflects, in essence, a patriarchal vision that reduces a woman’s existence to her dependence on men. The truth is that Houda Lemghari represents a “political mind” capable of managing responsibilities with intelligence. Her addition to the finance committee, should she win, would represent real added value given her deep specialization and knowledge of budget and economic files, which many current party figures lack.
Ultimately, Houda Lemghari cannot be judged from a single angle; she is an independent political entity, and her future performance within elected institutions will be the best response to those who attempt to diminish her value by linking it solely to familial attributes.
