Major security strike against drug trafficking networks results in seizure of thousands of hallucinogenic pills in Essaouira

Record shipment of drugs and hallucinogenic pills foiled

As part of the ongoing efforts by security services to combat organized crime and illicit drug trafficking, the judicial police in Marrakech, in precise coordination with the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST), delivered a severe blow to a criminal network operating across the Kingdom’s cities.

This successful security operation, which took place on Friday, August 14, resulted in the arrest of two individuals, aged 23 and 41, suspected of possessing and distributing various types of narcotics.

Available data indicates that the case began when authorities monitored the movements of the primary suspect. She was arrested in Essaouira immediately after stepping off a bus coming from another city.

A thorough search of the individual resulted in the seizure of massive and shocking quantities of narcotic materials, most notably 3,690 ecstasy pills, in addition to 11 kilograms of Chira (hashish), as well as approximately 120 grams of pure cocaine, confirming the suspect’s involvement in a large-scale hard drug trafficking network.

Arrest of the accomplice and seizure of suspicious funds

Security efforts did not stop there; ongoing field and technical investigations conducted by police under the supervision of the Public Prosecution succeeded in uncovering the remaining threads of the network and identifying the presumed accomplice.

Tracking the individual led to his arrest in Essaouira, where a significant sum of money was seized, suspected to be proceeds from these inter-city criminal activities, supporting the hypothesis of organized, cross-regional trafficking.

Deepening investigations to uncover potential links

Following this operation, the suspects have been kept in police custody pending the judicial investigation overseen by the competent Public Prosecution. This investigation aims to determine all circumstances surrounding the case, as well as to track and uncover all potential extensions of this dangerous criminal activity and apprehend anyone involved in this network that threatens the safety and security of citizens.
