Ishaq Charia officially resigns as Secretary General of the Moroccan Liberal Party following elections

Ishaq Charia, Secretary General of the Moroccan Liberal Party, has officially announced his resignation from his duties as head of the party’s general secretariat, following the results recorded by the party during the recent elections, which he described in his letter as “disappointing and unjustifiable.”

Details of the resignation letter to the National Council

Coinciding media sources indicated that Ishaq Charia directed his resignation letter to the members of the party’s National Council, placing this decisive decision before the competent party institution to study and consider it in accordance with the statutes and internal regulations of the Moroccan Liberal Party.

In the text of the resignation, Charia stated that the announced results do not reflect the true presence of the party on the political scene, nor the level of popular support that accompanied his speeches, programs, and positions during the election campaign. He also noted that the large gap between the field presence of the party’s candidates and militants and the final results has raised many questions within the ranks of the political organization.

Suspicious practices and intention to file appeals

In the same context, the resigning Secretary General addressed what he described as “suspicious practices” that marred some electoral districts, especially in the northern provinces of the Kingdom. He confirmed that the party leadership is moving towards resorting to legal procedures and electoral appeals regarding a number of recorded cases.

It should be noted that these accusations and reservations remain positions issued by the leadership of the Moroccan Liberal Party, pending the outcome of the procedures and appeals that will be presented to the judicial and administrative authorities competent to settle election disputes.
