A new Spanish diplomatic slap disrupts the Algerian regime’s calculations and postpones the alleged summit

A resounding slap for Madrid: The Algerian regime faces diplomatic embarrassment
In a striking diplomatic development that reveals the fragility of illusory bets, the Spanish newspaper « The Objective » reported that the Pedro Sánchez government has made a decisive and sudden decision to indefinitely postpone the high-level Spanish-Algerian summit. This event, which was scheduled for October 20, 2026, has been called off, placing the Algerian regime in a position of extreme embarrassment and confusion before local and international public opinion.
Confusion at the El Mouradia Palace and an unexpected shock
The most embarrassing aspect for the Algerian side, according to Spanish sources, is that the decision to postpone came abruptly and without prior warning to the Algerian authorities, even though preparations were in full swing. Both parties had officially announced last July the active preparation for this summit, and Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares confirmed the continuation of those preparations on September 25, before the sudden collapse of the Algerian bets occurred.
Failed bets and evaporated illusions of a natural rapprochement
With this shocking decision, the Algerian regime finds itself once again trapped in a tight corner, facing a summit on which it had staked all its media and political weight to demonstrate a return to the supposed normal path of relations with Madrid. On the other hand, the Spanish government took its step without providing any detailed official explanation for the reasons behind this sudden postponement as of the time of publication, which clearly reflects how shaky the diplomatic trust has become and the declining value of the promises promoted by the El Mouradia Palace.
