Bolivia officially announces readiness to open an embassy in Rabat and a commercial office in Dakhla

The beginning of a new phase in bilateral relations between Rabat and La Paz
The Plurinational State of Bolivia expressed, on Wednesday in New York, its full readiness to open a diplomatic representation in the capital, Rabat, in addition to establishing a commercial office in the city of Dakhla, which is expected to serve as a strategic platform for accessing promising African markets for Bolivian products.
This significant announcement was made in a joint statement signed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, and his Bolivian counterpart, Hector Francisco Huanacuni, following official talks at the United Nations headquarters, on the sidelines of the 81st session of the General Assembly.
Bolivia’s position on the Moroccan Sahara issue and the autonomy proposal
In the same context, Bolivia has officially taken note of the “Autonomy Proposal presented by the Kingdom of Morocco in 2007,” considering it a serious path toward achieving a just, lasting, and mutually acceptable political solution for all concerned parties.
Both countries reaffirmed their steadfast commitment to the fundamental principles of international law, including respect for national sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the principle of non-interference in internal affairs.
Enhancing economic and political cooperation and visa waiver
In parallel with these diplomatic developments, both sides praised the inauguration of a new phase in their bilateral relations, based on political pragmatism, mutual respect, and common interests.
The parties committed to “intensifying high-level political dialogue” and establishing a renewed institutional framework. In this context, the ministers agreed to strengthen bilateral relations, notably by holding the first session of the bilateral political consultation mechanism established in 1999.
At the conclusion of this fruitful meeting, the ministers oversaw the signing of an agreement on visa waiver for holders of diplomatic, official, service, and special passports, in addition to a memorandum of understanding between the two countries’ diplomatic academies.
