Morocco on Alert: Areas Threatened by Forest Fires

Official warnings on the increased risk of forest fires in the Kingdom
The National Agency for Water and Forests has issued a stern warning in the last few hours regarding the forest situation in Morocco, confirming that the coming days will see a high risk of fires breaking out across vast areas of vegetation. This warning comes amidst favorable climatic conditions, prompting competent authorities to classify 6 Moroccan provinces under the extreme danger category (red level).
Provinces under red and orange alert
According to field reports from the agency, the provinces placed under close monitoring and red alert are: Fahs-Anjra, Tangier-Assilah, Taounate, Taza, Essaouira, and Taroudant, for a period extending until next Tuesday.
In a related context, 24 other provinces have been listed under the orange level (high risk), including Al Hoceima, Chefchaouen, Larache, Ouezzane, Tetouan, M’diq-Fnideq, as well as provinces across the Kingdom such as El Hajeb, Sefrou, Kenitra, Rabat, Sale, Beni Mellal, and Agadir, which requires heightened vigilance from both authorities and citizens.
Calls for caution and avoiding risky behaviors
In its statement, the agency emphasized the importance of collective awareness to mitigate natural disasters, issuing an urgent appeal to residents of forest areas, users of these spaces, as well as vacationers and visitors, to exercise extreme caution. The agency called on citizens to avoid any activities that could trigger fires, such as lighting stoves in non-designated areas or leaving glass debris and flammable waste behind.
The agency also urged citizens to report immediately to local authorities or competent services if they observe any smoke or suspicious behavior that may threaten the forest wealth, affirming that proactive vigilance is the most effective way to protect the national forest heritage from destruction.
