Moroccan Interior Ministry strikes hard and sends a firm message to Spain regarding irregular migration

Moroccan security mobilization to counter calls for mass crossing
In a proactive and strict move, the Moroccan Ministry of Interior announced on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, the dismantling of incitement plots aimed at organizing attempts for mass irregular crossings into the occupied cities of Ceuta and Melilla. These arrests come at a time when Moroccan authorities have intensified their field presence and vigilance systems in anticipation of anonymous calls circulating on social media, urging for gatherings and crossing attempts on August 15.
The spokesperson for the Ministry of Interior explained that security services detected a disinformation campaign and suspicious posts aimed at pushing young people toward the dangers of illegal migration, emphasizing that these calls are not spontaneous movements, but acts of incitement severely punishable by Moroccan law due to the danger they pose to public safety.
Legal measures and a watchful security grip
The Ministry revealed that several individuals involved in promoting these calls have been arrested and placed under judicial investigation. The same source confirmed that public authorities have taken all necessary measures to thwart any attempts at intrusion, stressing that the “vigilance system” is not linked to a specific date, but is a continuous strategy adapted to field risks.
In this context, the Interior Ministry issued an explicit warning to Moroccan youth, urging them not to be swayed by “fallacies” promoted by unknown parties aiming to exploit the migration file to destabilize public order.
Firm message to Madrid regarding minors
The Ministry did not stop at internal counter-measures but directed a message to Spanish authorities, demanding they fulfill their full responsibilities. Rabat requested that the Spanish side overcome the administrative and judicial obstacles hindering the return of unaccompanied Moroccan minors to their families, emphasizing the priority of the “best interests” of these children.
The Ministry stressed that combating irregular migration and human trafficking networks is a shared responsibility requiring genuine and effective cooperation, reaffirming the Kingdom’s commitment to the “immediate return” mechanism which has proven its effectiveness in managing border crises.
