Moroccan Lawyers: The Monarchy is a red line we will not allow to be manipulated

A firm response from the Bar Associations in defense of the Kingdom’s pillars

In a move reflecting the deep national awareness within the legal profession in Morocco, the office of the Association of Bar Associations, led by the Bâtonnier Houcine Ziayani, issued a stern statement putting an end to all interpretations and attempts to exploit professional protests for agendas unrelated to the legitimate demands of lawyers.

No infringement on the High Authority of the King

In its statement released on Sunday, the Association confirmed its categorical rejection of any attempt to involve the royal institution in conflicts related to professional law or governmental and legislative choices. The office emphasized that the person of His Majesty the King, as the symbol of the nation and guarantor of its unity, is above being drawn into political or professional debates, asserting that His Majesty’s status remains beyond any partisan or union-related consideration.

The Moroccan Bar as a bulwark against external agendas

The statement strongly denounced what it described as “external attempts” aimed at exploiting the struggles of lawyers to undermine the image of the Kingdom and its symbols. It clarified that lawyers, who have always been at the forefront of defending national causes and territorial integrity, will never accept that their professional demands become a tool in the hands of hostile parties aiming to destabilize the nation.

Struggle within the framework of institutions

The same source indicated that the protests conducted by lawyers fall within the scope of legitimate rights under the rule of law and the Constitution. The Bâtonnier stressed that the professional dispute is an internal matter managed through institutional channels, deeming any interpretation that attempts to take this position out of context as “malicious” and exploited by hostile media.

Non-negotiable constants

The statement concluded by emphasizing that the patriotism of Moroccan lawyers is an established historical fact. The lawyers affirmed that, despite differences in positions with the government, they remain soldiers mobilized to defend the interests of the Kingdom and to rally around its constants, while simultaneously upholding the dignity and independence of the profession.
