Occupied Melilla: Security forces deal a heavy blow to drug traffickers

Security success ends drug dealing activities in the «La Cañada» neighborhood in Melilla

In a preemptive strike against organized crime, elements of the Anti-Drug Unit of the National Police in occupied Melilla carried out a precise security operation on Wednesday dubbed «Sur». The operation aimed to dismantle an active drug retail point in the «La Cañada» neighborhood, an area that has recently seen protests by residents demanding enhanced security presence.

Meticulous field investigations lead to arrests

The operation stemmed from intensive field investigations following citizen complaints about suspicious movements by an individual who utilized the neighborhood’s complex alleys to camouflage illegal activities. Investigations confirmed his involvement in trafficking cocaine, hashish, and marijuana on the public street.

A strategic plan against the lookout network

To ensure the success of the raid, security services placed the suspect under close surveillance, revealing that he employed a network of lookouts to monitor police patrols. In response, the (UDYCO) unit, supported by the Prevention and Intervention Unit (UPR), conducted a professional intervention that successfully surrounded the site.

Continuing the war on crime

The operation resulted in the arrest of the suspect in the act, along with the seizure of significant quantities of narcotics. This step is a natural extension of the «Flecha 2» operation carried out on August 24, confirming the authorities’ determination to eradicate all sources of organized crime and protect public peace.
