Public Prosecution opens a judicial investigation into political espionage allegations
The King’s Public Prosecutor at the Casablanca Court of Appeal announced, in an official statement to the public, the decision to open a thorough judicial investigation to determine the validity of allegations recently circulated in a video on social media platforms.
This judicial step comes in the wake of a speech delivered by the secretary-general of a political party, in which he claimed that his party is being systematically targeted through various methods, most notably phone spying on the party’s leaders and cadres.
Legal measures to ensure the integrity of electoral processes
The Public Prosecution explained in its statement that this decision is being taken in accordance with its legal powers, which primarily aim to ensure the proper application of the law and guarantee the integrity and smooth conduct of the country’s electoral processes.
The Public Prosecution has entrusted the task of conducting this investigation to the National Brigade of the Judicial Police, as the body responsible for sensitive crime files, in order to verify the accuracy of the mentioned allegations and investigate the facts described in the circulated video, in preparation for taking the necessary legal actions based on the findings of this judicial inquiry.
