Tragedy at Al-Mouhandis Beach in Nador: Two Die Attempting a Rescue

A recreational trip turns into a tragedy on the Nador coast

The Al-Mouhandis beach area in the Bouarg commune (Nador province) experienced tragic moments yesterday when a family trip ended in the drowning of two people who sacrificed their lives in a noble attempt to rescue a teenage girl from strong sea currents.

Details of the painful incident

The incident began when a 15-year-old girl got into difficulty amidst the waves of the beach, which is known for its dangerous conditions. Upon hearing her cries for help, her father (42), from the city of Azghenghan, jumped into the water in a desperate attempt to save his daughter from certain death.

In an act of solidarity and selflessness, another man present at the scene (born in 1986, from Boulemane) did not hesitate to join the father in the rescue attempt. However, the force of the sea and the strong currents prevented them from returning to shore, leading them both to drown.

Authorities mobilize and launch an investigation

Rescue teams were later able to bring the girl to safety, while local authorities, the Royal Gendarmerie, and Civil Protection were mobilized to recover the victims’ bodies and transport them to the provincial hospital morgue.

This incident has left beachgoers and local residents in shock and deep sorrow. The Royal Gendarmerie has launched an official investigation under the supervision of the Public Prosecution to uncover the circumstances of the incident, amid renewed calls for citizens to respect safety warnings and avoid swimming at unguarded beaches, especially during turbulent sea conditions.
