Railway Revolution: Morocco Unveils Alternative to “Navette” Trains Starting in 2029

In a strategic move reflecting the major transformation of the railway sector in the Kingdom of Morocco, the national fleet is preparing to launch a new era of regional mobility. The country plans to replace its current rapid shuttle trains with a modern alternative that meets the highest international standards by 2029.

Strategic Partnership with “Hyundai Rotem”

This qualitative step follows the official contract signed with the South Korean company Hyundai Rotem, a global leader in the railway industry. Under this major agreement, the company will manufacture and supply 110 new trains, specifically designed to meet the demands of intensive daily travel between major urban centers.

Technological Specifications and Enhanced Travel Experience

The new model replacing the current “Navette” trains will offer an integrated passenger experience based on artificial intelligence and advanced safety systems, while also improving energy efficiency and reducing carbon emissions. These trains will feature increased capacity, comfortable seating, and modern connectivity services, ensuring high service quality and punctuality for daily commuters, especially along the Casablanca-Rabat-Kenitra axis.

Entering Service and the 2029 Vision

These new Korean trains are expected to enter service gradually starting in 2029. This massive project is part of a comprehensive vision to modernize the Kingdom’s railway infrastructure and prepare the transport sector for the significant challenges and major international sporting events Morocco will host in the coming years.
