Marrakech: Prison sentence for car park attendant who terrorized citizens

Justice puts an end to the chaos of illegal “car park attendants” in Marrakech
The correctional chamber of the Marrakech Court of First Instance sentenced a fake car park attendant to one year in prison last Wednesday, following his involvement in a series of criminal activities that threatened the safety and property of citizens.
Details of the incident: extortion, vandalism, and a bladed weapon
The incident dates back to last August, when the accused attempted to impose an illegal 30-dirham fee on a woman parking her car on a public street. When she refused, the individual pulled out a bladed weapon and proceeded to vandalize the vehicle’s bodywork and headlights in a violent rage.
Police intervention and arrest
Following the report, police officers acted swiftly, arresting the accused in the act. After a preventive search, authorities seized the bladed weapon used in the act of vandalism, as well as a psychotropic pill, highlighting the danger posed by the individual.
Criminal record and deterrent sentences
A background check revealed that the suspect had a criminal record for assault with a weapon and theft. The public prosecutor charged the accused with destruction of private property, illegal possession of a bladed weapon, public intoxication, and impersonation for the purpose of illegal extortion. This verdict comes as a firm step toward enhancing security and curbing the phenomenon of illegal “car park attendants” who control public streets.
