Impersonating a security officer lands young man in prison in Fez

Developments in the “fake policeman” case at the Fez court
The correctional chamber of the Court of First Instance in Fez has issued a judicial ruling convicting an individual who specialized in impersonating a security officer to defraud citizens, after proving his involvement in swindling a significant sum of money from a woman. The court sentenced him to 10 months of effective imprisonment along with a fine of 5,000 dirhams.
The threads of the crime: How was the victim lured?
The incident stems from the suspect exploiting the vicinity of the Palace of Justice in Fez, where he struck up a relationship with a woman, convincing her that he belonged to the police force. Using this false claim, he successfully persuaded her of his ability to intervene in her favor regarding a legal case that was bothering her, taking advantage of her ignorance of legal procedures.
Fraud in the name of the law
The suspect did not stop at claiming influence; he deepened his criminal plan by convincing the victim to hand over 8,000 dirhams, claiming it would cover expenses related to the case and legal representation costs. The victim eventually grew suspicious and decided to file an official complaint with the Public Prosecution, triggering the search for the suspect.
Arrest and the mask slips off
The Anti-Gang Brigade in Fez acted immediately upon receiving instructions, succeeding in locating and arresting the suspect. A check of his criminal records revealed an unexpected surprise: the suspect was not only practicing fraud, but was also wanted by justice in another case related to issuing bounced checks.
A deterrent judicial ruling
After referring the case to the judiciary and completing investigations, the court was convinced by the evidence presented against him. The case concluded with a prison sentence, which restores justice for the victim and underscores the strictness of the judiciary toward anyone attempting to exploit security credentials to deceive citizens.
