Washington Wages War on ‘Birth Tourism’: Hundreds of Visas Cancelled and Stricter Travel Oversight

In a move reflecting the US administration’s firm stance on immigration and travel policies, the US State Department has announced the cancellation of over 600 entry visas for foreign nationals involved in the phenomenon known as “birth tourism.” This decision is part of a broad national campaign aimed at combating the exploitation of visitor visas for undeclared purposes that violate the terms of entry into the United States.
Official sources stated that specialized teams are currently working in coordination with federal agencies to meticulously review visa holder lists globally. The objective of this operation is not only to identify individual cases of misleading authorities about travel intentions but also to dismantle the networks and firms that have evolved into organized commercial “agencies,” facilitating childbirth on US soil in exchange for large sums of money.
Dismantling Brokerage Networks
Investigations indicate that these activities are no longer limited to individual efforts but have morphed into a professionally managed “black market.” These brokerage networks provide comprehensive packages including housing arrangements, medical care, and misleading legal advice. Furthermore, travelers are coached on how to present fake documents or false information to consular officers—an act the US authorities consider a grave violation of national sovereignty and immigration laws.
A Stern Warning to Travelers
The US State Department has sent a clear message: providing incorrect information during visa applications or at entry points will lead to severe consequences, primarily the immediate cancellation of the visa and a future ban from entering the United States. The cancellation of these 600 visas is just the “beginning” of a series of stricter regulatory measures intended to close the loopholes used to circumvent visa systems. The department confirmed that oversight will remain intensive in the coming period to ensure full compliance with federal laws.
