Enhancing Road Connectivity in Guercif: Saka Commune Paves the Way for Highway Project Towards Driouch

Strategic Step to Strengthen Infrastructure in Saka Commune
In line with its continuous efforts to strengthen the road network and break the isolation of rural areas, the council of Saka commune in Guercif province approved, during an extraordinary session held on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, a series of decisions expected to transform local development in the region.
Structural Projects to Connect Communes and Reinforce Road Axes
The session, chaired by the council president and attended by local authorities and representatives of the National Agency for Water and Forests, discussed two crucial points of an urgent and developmental nature. The first point was the majority approval of a partnership agreement aimed at connecting territorial communes in Guercif province for the year 2026.
This agreement includes the construction of a vital road connecting the Rafrafa road to Regional Road No. 512 towards the Melga El Ouidane commune, spanning approximately 15 kilometers with a total cost of 16 million MAD. This project will enhance internal connectivity and facilitate the movement of residents.
Facilitating the Construction of the Saka–Driouch Highway
In a step reflecting the commune’s commitment to major national projects, the council unanimously approved the second point regarding the temporary occupation of four hectares of forest domain. This decision aims to overcome technical obstacles facing the execution of the strategic road segment within the Saka–Driouch highway project, a project relied upon by residents to act as an engine for economic development.
Promising Development Prospects for the Oriental Region
These decisions fall within the core of the national infrastructure development strategy. Once works begin, these projects are expected to:
– Improve mobility conditions for citizens and end the isolation of remote villages.
– Drive the local economy by facilitating the transport of goods and products.
– Attract investments to the region through improved road links with other provinces in the region.
These steps confirm that Guercif province is steadily moving towards modernizing its infrastructure, making the connection between Saka and Driouch a key focal point in the regional development map and a strong indicator of local communes’ ambition to keep pace with the major transformations in Morocco’s highway networks.
