Record-Breaking Maritime Routes: Strengthening Trade Between Nador and Portugal

In a strategic move aimed at enhancing the competitiveness of the national economy, Morocco is moving towards a qualitative shift in the structure of its agricultural and industrial exports directed towards European markets. This direction aims to overcome the traditional challenges imposed by road transport through Spain and France, with its bureaucratic complexities and unexpected delays that affect supply chains.

Logistics partnership to foster commercial openness

Within the framework of this new vision, «WEC Lines» has begun operating a regular weekly maritime line connecting the port of Nador with the Portuguese port of Setúbal. This step serves as a vital link allowing Moroccan exporters to reach the largest consumer markets in Northern and Western Europe seamlessly and quickly, bypassing the burdens of restrictions imposed on truck traffic on European highways.

Competitive advantages and record timing

The new maritime journeys are distinguished by providing record times of no more than three days to reach the Portuguese coast, with high flexibility in redirecting containers to strategic ports such as Rotterdam and Antwerp. This maritime route not only contributes to reducing shipping costs but also guarantees the protection of product quality through the use of advanced refrigerated containers, directly serving the interests of exporters in the eastern and northern regions of the Kingdom.

Promising prospects for «Nador West Med»

The activation of this maritime line comes at a precise time coinciding with the imminent entry into full operation of the massive port complex «Nador West Med». This project confirms Morocco’s commitment to consolidating its position as a regional logistics hub connecting the African continent to global markets, giving economic actors more flexible and efficient tools to develop their businesses and expand the footprint of Moroccan products on the Old Continent.
