Rim Chabat nears official leadership of the Popular Movement group in the Moroccan Parliament’s first chamber

Amid ongoing preparations to redistribute responsibilities within elected institutions, available data suggests that the Popular Movement party is strongly leaning toward appointing parliamentarian Rim Chabat to chair the party’s group in the House of Representatives.

According to information obtained by the “Nichane” website, this choice carries clear political dimensions that extend beyond simple internal organizational arrangements, aimed at highlighting the presence of women in parliamentary leadership positions and legislative decision-making.

The name of Rim Chabat is circulating during a politically dynamic period, particularly following the precedent set by the appointment of Fatima-Zahra Mansouri to government leadership, a factor that has provided additional momentum to the issue of women’s access to political decision-making centers nationwide.

In this context, the Popular Movement appears to have chosen to align with this institutional shift by entrusting the leadership of its deputies in the first chamber to a woman, in harmony with general trends supporting the enhancement of active female participation in institutions and positions of responsibility.

If this selection is officially adopted during the restructuring of the House of Representatives, Rim Chabat will take on the task of managing the Popular Movement’s legislative and political presence, thereby joining the ranks of female figures holding prominent positions in the institutional map of the new legislative term.
