Oujda – The Bab Abdelouahab market, formerly known as the Tangier market, in the heart of Oujda, witnessed a massive fire late Thursday night. The incident resulted in significant material damage, with six shops completely destroyed, prompting a major response from local authorities, security services, and civil protection teams.
According to available information, fire crews rushed to the scene with six tankers to control the blaze, which caused panic in the area. The responders managed to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to the rest of the market before fully extinguishing the remaining hotspots, in the presence of the region’s Wali and forensic police services.
Preliminary reports indicate that the true cause of the fire remains unknown at this stage, pending the completion of necessary investigations. Initial field assessments suggest that an electrical short circuit may be behind the sudden incident.
