Shocking details in the Tangier ballot paper case: Two new suspects arrested

In new developments regarding the tampering with ballot papers case that has shaken the city of Tangier, the Public Prosecutor at the Court of Appeal announced on Thursday, October 1st, that an investigative proceeding has been launched against two new key suspects. Both are currently in pre-trial detention for their alleged involvement in serious crimes related to obstructing voting processes and participation in forgery.

The involvement of a company accountant

According to a statement from the Public Prosecution, additional investigations and technical expertise confirmed the involvement of a company accountant in marking ballot papers for a specific political party. This act was carried out at the direct request of his employer, who was staying in a rented apartment within a hotel unit alongside two others, in possession of two bags containing the targeted ballots.

Surveillance cameras and technical evidence expose the suspects

The statement explained that the retrieval of hotel surveillance camera footage—which the suspects deliberately tried to erase to hide evidence—confirmed the presence of the second suspect with the accountant and two other previously detained individuals. The footage confirmed that the bags found in the polling stations were the same ones transported by the individuals. Additionally, technical expertise on the second suspect’s phone revealed repeated phone calls made to two other suspects already in custody for the same case.

Strict enforcement of the law by the Public Prosecution

Based on this evidence, the Public Prosecution requested a judicial investigation for the two suspects while in pre-trial detention. The charges include obstructing the voting process and participating in forgery. The Prosecution concluded its statement by emphasizing its continued close monitoring of the investigation to ensure the strict application of the law and the integrity of the electoral process.
