Field developments on the new local prison project in Chichaoua
As part of his ongoing field tours to monitor the major projects of the General Delegation, Mohamed Salah Tamek, Delegate General for Prison Administration and Reintegration, conducted an inspection visit on Friday, September 4, 2026, to the construction site of the new local prison in the city of Chichaoua.
During this visit, Tamek reviewed the progress of works across the various facilities included in this important project. He received detailed technical explanations from officials of the construction company regarding the pace of work and the remaining construction phases to ensure the facility meets approved standards.
The Delegation’s strategy to address overcrowding
This visit comes within the context of implementing the General Delegation for Prison Administration’s strategy aimed at modernizing the infrastructure of penal institutions in Morocco. The opening of the new prison in Chichaoua is expected to be a qualitative leap in the management of the prison population, as officials are counting on this project to effectively contribute to alleviating the overcrowding experienced by other correctional facilities in the region.
Through such projects, the Delegation seeks to increase capacity and provide detention conditions that align with rehabilitation and reintegration programs, ensuring the respect of inmates’ rights and the development of the prison system at the national level.
