Agadir as a global hub for the Francophone scientific debate

The city of Agadir is preparing to host the sixth edition of the World Week of Scientific Francophonie (SMFS), taking place from October 12th to 15th. This annual event is a landmark occasion that brings together the elite of academic actors and scientific researchers from across the globe.

A strategic turning point for the AUF

In this regard, Professor Slim Khalbous, Rector of the Agence universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF), emphasized that this edition holds particular importance as it coincides with the implementation of the new 2026-2029 strategy. This strategy aims to establish a more resilient economic model capable of adapting to current global transformations, especially in light of the financial challenges recently faced by the scientific system.

Scientific diplomacy in the face of geopolitical challenges

Under the theme “Scientific diplomacy in the face of geopolitical challenges,” the meeting seeks to analyze major international shifts and the role of universities as a ‘soft power’ in producing knowledge and fostering dialogue between peoples. Experts noted that this session will serve as a fertile space for exchanging ideas and building strong international cooperation networks capable of offering innovative scientific solutions to modern challenges.

An extensive program to boost academic cooperation

The SMFS program in Agadir includes a series of major events, including the Ministerial Conference, Scientific Foundations, and the Youth Conference. Furthermore, specialized workshops will be organized to focus directly on the reality of scientific Francophonie in Morocco and the prospects for university cooperation within the North African region, making Agadir a strategic platform for strengthening scientific and academic ties.
