Akhannouch defends Talbi Alami: Party debate is healthy and the decisive decision rests with the Royal Institution

Akhannouch puts an end to the controversy over Talbi Alami’s statements
In a move to address the reactions following the circulation of an audio recording attributed to the RNI leader, Rachid Talbi Alami, the Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, broke his silence to place these discussions within their proper institutional context, away from amplification or biased interpretations.
Party debate as a democratic act
During a mass meeting in Oujda last Friday, Akhannouch stressed that Talbi Alami’s statements reflect a true image of the political reality experienced by Moroccans. He explained that political parties are central constitutional institutions and that their political bureaus are the natural and legitimate space for exchanging views, considering that differences within the majority are healthy and part of organized democratic work.
“The decision rests with the King”: Akhannouch clarifies the appointment process
Responding to the controversy linked to the management of ministerial sectors, Akhannouch emphasized that each party in the government coalition has its own legitimate ambitions. However, he blocked any interpretation regarding the formation of the government, confirming that while parties submit their proposals on names and sectors, the final decision on appointments remains the exclusive constitutional prerogative of King Mohammed VI.
Stakes of reform and continuity
Discussing government work, Akhannouch called for moving beyond the “post-filling debate” and focusing on the real challenges that concern the Moroccan citizen. He pointed out that major reforms are not achieved through random decisions, but require continuity, accumulation, and hard work. He confirmed that the current government builds on what has been achieved in recent years while striving to ensure a tangible impact of reforms on the ground.
Akhannouch concluded his meeting by emphasizing that the next challenge is not just launching development projects, but completing them and ensuring their sustainability to serve the higher interest of the nation and its citizens.
