This occurred while the judicial police were attempting to arrest an individual described as “dangerous” and wanted under multiple national arrest warrants.

The General Prosecutor at the Court of Appeal in Al Hoceima confirmed that the operation, which took place on September 7, 2026, targeted a person involved in serious criminal records, including hard drug trafficking, forming a criminal gang, organizing illegal immigration, and attempted murder using a firearm. Upon being surrounded, the suspect opened fire with a hunting rifle at security personnel, leading to the death of a police officer and wounding two gendarmes and a civilian.

The operation’s timeline: from escape attempt to arrest

During the arrest attempts, security forces faced fierce resistance from members of the same gang, who tried to obstruct the operation with two vehicles and opened fire again. In the framework of legitimate self-defense, the judicial police managed to neutralize the threat, wounding the main suspect in the leg before arresting him and transferring him to the hospital under heavy security guard. Other accomplices were later arrested, and the firearm used along with a drone used in the gang’s activities were seized.
