New measure to reduce electronic transaction costs
Bank Al-Maghrib has announced a future decision to lower the general ceiling for interchange fees associated with transactions made using Moroccan bank cards within the national territory. This measure aims to encourage digital financial transactions and reduce costs for both consumers and merchants alike.
Reduction details and timelines
According to data revealed by the Central Bank, the interchange fee ceiling will be reduced from 0.65% to 0.5%. The Bank has set October 1, 2026, as the official date for this decision to take effect across the Kingdom.

In a related context, the Central Bank explained, through an awareness video prepared specifically for this purpose, that this move is part of a broader vision aimed at highlighting the benefits of electronic payment methods and encouraging their adoption as a smooth and secure alternative to cash for daily transactions within the national market.
