Bloody toll on Moroccan urban roads: 33 dead and hundreds of serious injuries weekly

Moroccan city streets have recorded a heavy traffic toll, as 33 people lost their lives and 3,232 others were injured, 130 of whom were in serious condition, resulting from 2,295 traffic accidents in urban areas during the period from September 28 to October 4.

Main causes of traffic accidents in urban areas

According to data from the General Directorate for National Security (DGSN), driver inattention tops the list of causes for these traffic tragedies. Following closely are failure to respect right-of-way, pedestrian inattention, excessive speed, and loss of vehicle control.

Multiple traffic violations exacerbate the situation

The causes of these accidents are not limited to the aforementioned factors, but also include dangerous practices such as unauthorized turns without signaling, failure to maintain a safe distance, and ignoring red lights and “Stop” signs. Reports also monitored cases of driving on the wrong side of the road, driving under the influence of alcohol, and improper overtaking.

Continuing rise in urban road victims

These alarming figures confirm the upward trend in the number of traffic accident victims in urban areas. With more than 3,000 injured in a single week, including 130 critical cases, road safety faces major challenges that require increased caution and vigilance.
