Tata: Woman’s death from snakebite sparks protests over the province’s healthcare situation

Protest march by Tizki women following snakebite death
The region of Tizki in the province of Tata witnessed a protest demonstration on Thursday, October 1, with the participation of local women, following the death of a woman from the village of Ikdi in the Tizounine commune, who succumbed to complications from a horned viper bite sustained earlier in the week.
Sequence of medical events and deteriorating health
The deceased had received first aid at the local health center before medical authorities decided to urgently transfer her to the Military Hospital in Guelmim for intensive care. Despite medical interventions, her condition did not improve, and she passed away due to complications from the bite.
Demands to strengthen medical resources in remote areas
During the protest, women in the region expressed their profound frustration with the state of healthcare services in the province. Participants stated that this tragic incident has brought back to the forefront the population’s urgent demands regarding the strengthening of medical resources and equipment, as well as the need to improve the speed of emergency response—especially in remote areas where geography creates additional challenges and significant difficulties for transporting patients to major hospitals.
