18 parliamentarians with convictions or corruption cases return to the legislative scene

Review of judicial paths reveals the return of former parliamentarians

A comprehensive review of the judicial records of deputies who returned to the House of Representatives revealed the presence of 18 parliamentarians previously associated with judicial rulings or decisions of «mandate revocation» issued by the Constitutional Court. These files concern electoral, financial, or administrative corruption, including 4 deputies who were acquitted at some stage of the proceedings.

First Category: Revocation due to electoral corruption and misappropriation

The first category, according to available data, concerns 8 deputies elected during the last legislative term before the Constitutional Court ruled to strip them of their membership. Six cases were due to electoral corruption, while two cases were linked to the misappropriation of public funds.

Second Category: Judicial rulings and corruption investigations

The second category includes 8 deputies who received judicial rulings for financial or administrative corruption, falsification of official documents, or issuing bounced checks, in addition to two cases of deputies currently under investigation for financial and administrative corruption who were re-elected to the new parliament.

Details of rulings and prosecutions

Of the eight who were convicted, four were later acquitted, while a fifth deputy served one year and a week in prison for falsifying documents related to a foreign drug baron, before returning to carry out his parliamentary duties after resigning and changing his political affiliation.

Distribution by party affiliation in the 2026 elections

The 14 cases of those convicted or under investigation (excluding those acquitted) are distributed among five political parties, according to the affiliation they held during the 2026 elections. The Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM) leads the list with 5 deputies, followed by the Popular Movement (MP) with 3 deputies, the Istiqlal Party with 2 deputies, the Constitutional Union (UC) with 2 deputies, and the National Rally of Independents (RNI) with 2 deputies.
