Suspect arrested for alleged arson at a pottery store on the Oujda-Ahfir road

Ahfir — The “Lebghada” neighborhood in the city of Ahfir witnessed a significant incident on Thursday evening, October 1st, when a massive fire broke out at a pottery store located along the national road connecting Oujda and Ahfir, near a police checkpoint.

According to information from the scene, flames and thick clouds of smoke erupted suddenly within the display area, destroying a large portion of the pottery inventory as well as the surrounding wooden structures.

The electrical wiring in the area increased the danger of the incident as flames reached nearby utility poles and cables, causing sparks and electrical explosions. This prompted the authorities to urgently cut off electricity to the area to prevent potential electrocution or further disasters.

The incident mobilized national security forces, local authorities, and the Civil Protection services, who engaged in intensive field efforts to fully contain the fire and prevent its spread, particularly given the proximity of trees surrounding the area.

Responding swiftly to the events, the national security services in Ahfir successfully apprehended the individual suspected of intentionally setting the fire in a record amount of time.

Preliminary data indicates that the suspect is from the city of Fez. The individual has been placed under judicial investigation, overseen by the relevant Public Prosecutor’s Office, to determine the true motives and reasons behind this criminal act.
