Nizar Baraka considers the appointment of a woman as head of government a historical milestone for Morocco

An unprecedented historical moment in the Moroccan political landscape
Nizar Baraka, Secretary-General of the Istiqlal Party, emphasized that the current political phase in the Kingdom constitutes a true “historical moment,” considering the appointment of a woman as head of government for the first time as an event of great importance for Moroccan, Arab, and Muslim women alike.
Baraka’s remarks came following his meeting with the head of government as part of the ongoing consultations to form the new cabinet. He explained that the meeting provided an opportunity to exchange views on upcoming political deadlines, as well as the major economic and social challenges the country is facing.
The problem of trust and fulfilling partisan commitments
Speaking on internal political affairs, the Secretary-General insisted that the next phase requires facing an urgent challenge: the issue of trust in political action and building a genuine reconciliation between citizens and institutions.
He highlighted that restoring this trust can only be achieved through the fulfillment of partisan commitments and the upholding of principles of credibility, which will provide promising horizons and a reassuring future for the youth, women, and all Moroccan citizens.
The Istiqlal Party’s position on government participation
Regarding the Istiqlal Party’s stance on the upcoming government formation, Nizar Baraka announced that the party’s National Council will meet soon to evaluate the election results and study the possibility of effective participation in the government.
In this context, he affirmed that the party, regardless of the position it will occupy, will remain a fundamental supporter of this political experience and an active contributor to the comprehensive national mobilization, rising above narrow electoral logic.
Challenges of the internal front and purchasing power
Baraka concluded his statement by emphasizing that current challenges require moving beyond the logic of electoral competition toward an urgent strengthening of the internal front to face geostrategic challenges.
He also pointed to the importance of addressing issues of employment and combating unemployment, protecting the purchasing power of citizens, and expanding the middle class, in addition to continuing to defend the cause of autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty, reaffirming that the Istiqlal Party always places the interests of the nation and the citizen above all else.
