Mali’s consistent position on the Moroccan Sahara issue
The Malian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Abdoulaye Diop, reiterated his country’s consistent position in support of the Kingdom’s territorial integrity and Moroccan sovereignty over its southern provinces. In press statements, the Malian official recalled the declaration issued by the Malian government on April 10, 2026, in which Bamako considers the autonomy plan proposed by Morocco as the only serious and credible basis for resolving this regional dispute.
High-level diplomatic meeting between Bourita and Diop in New York
The remarks by the head of Malian diplomacy followed bilateral talks with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. Mr. Diop explained that this meeting provided an opportunity to reaffirm the strength of the historical, economic, and commercial ties that unite the two brotherly countries.
Support for Security Council resolutions and strengthening of bilateral cooperation
In the same context, the Malian minister indicated that Bamako expresses its full support for UN Security Council Resolution 2797, describing it as an important step towards achieving a final settlement of the dispute. He also stressed that the partnership between Morocco and Mali is based on mutual respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of both countries, recalling the outcomes of the joint cooperation commission held in Bamako to enhance South-South cooperation ties in various fields.
