15 Lawyers in Parliament: From Protest Grounds to the Legislative Hall

Remarkable Rise of the Legal Profession in the House of Representatives

The results of the September 23, 2026 elections have ushered in a prominent presence for the legal profession within the House of Representatives, as 15 lawyers secured their seats in the new legislative body. This rise occurs in a significant political context, especially since the profession was in direct and open confrontation with the Parliament and the government during the previous legislative term over the bill regulating the profession.

Distribution Among the Kingdom’s Bar Associations

The winners are distributed across various bar associations. Leading the list is the Casablanca Bar with six members, including El Fatmi Rmide, Amina Maelainine, Rachid Saber, Najwa Koukous, and Nabila Jalal. The new parliamentary composition also marks the presence of the Bâtonnier Moulay Slimane El Omrani and Mohamed Sabari of the Marrakech Bar. The Rabat Bar will be represented by Omar Mahmoud Benjelloun and Abdelilah Idrissi Bouzidi.

Wide Regional Representation

The list includes other names from various cities, such as Zina Idhali (Agadir), Reda Boukamaz (Safi), Nadia Noam (Casablanca-Settat region), Samira Outaleb (Fes-Meknes region), Bouabid Kebouri (Khouribga), and Ahmed Amine El Mettioui (Chefchaouen).

From the Protest Table to the Parliamentary Dome

This new human composition holds exceptional importance, given that the legal profession was among the most active voices during the previous legislative term, marked by protests against the draft Law No. 66.23. The transition of these professional figures—who once criticized and negotiated from outside the institution—into the heart of the body responsible for legislation and oversight marks a new chapter in parliamentary dynamics.
