Morocco prepares to set clocks back and return to GMT on Sunday

Time change in Morocco: Details of the return to GMT

The Ministry of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform announced, in an official statement released this Friday, the date for the return to the Kingdom’s legal time (GMT), in accordance with the regulatory measures currently in force in Morocco.

According to the ministry, citizens will need to set their clocks back by sixty minutes at 2:00 AM on Sunday, September 20, 2026.

Legal basis for the time change

The ministry explained that this measure is implemented in accordance with the provisions of Decree No. 2.26.530, issued on 9 Muharram 1448 (June 25, 2026), regarding legal time. This decree is based on its first article, which mandates the return to the legal time defined by Article 1 of Royal Decree No. 455.67 of June 2, 1967.

Repeal of previous decrees

In the same context, the ministry indicated that, under Article 2 of the new decree, Decree No. 2.18.855 of October 26, 2018, concerning legal time, will be repealed starting from the date the new time takes effect (September 20, 2026).

This measure resets the Kingdom’s official time to the Greenwich Meridian, effectively ending the previous time schedule in compliance with the legal and regulatory texts governing this field in Morocco.
