Morocco completes the return of 137 Sudanese migrants to their home country

Morocco facilitates the return of 137 Sudanese migrants in a voluntary humanitarian operation

In a step reflecting the Kingdom of Morocco’s commitment to its humanitarian approach regarding migration, a voluntary return operation was conducted on Friday for 137 Sudanese migrants who were in an irregular situation. The flight departed from Mohammed V International Airport in Casablanca, in close coordination between the Moroccan authorities and the Embassy of the Republic of Sudan in Rabat.

The Royal approach to migration: preserving dignity and African solidarity

This initiative comes in the context of the National Strategy for Immigration and Asylum established by His Majesty King Mohammed VI. This policy is based on a human rights framework that places the dignity of the migrant at the heart of its concerns. This approach has allowed, in addition to the regularization of thousands of residents, the option of voluntary return, thereby strengthening South-South cooperation.

Diplomatic praise for the Moroccan model

In a statement to the Maghreb Arabe Presse agency, the Ambassador of Sudan to Morocco, Mawada Omar Hag El-Tom El-Badawi, expressed her deep gratitude to the King, the government, and the Moroccan people, noting that this trip will enable the returnees to contribute to the reconstruction and development of Sudan. The Sudanese diplomat affirmed that the Moroccan experience in migration, based on solidarity, serves as a model to be followed for African nations.

Testimonies of returnees: gratitude for the warm welcome

The migrants expressed their great appreciation for the support they received. Youssef, one of the returnees, stated in a press interview: “We offer our deep thanks to the King, the government, and the Moroccan people for the warm welcome they extended to us,” emphasizing that the facilities provided by the Moroccan authorities were crucial in facilitating their return to participate in their country’s development process.
