Mbappé breaks his silence: “I am currently the best in the world”

Mbappé breaks his silence and responds to critics

In a move reflecting his high self-confidence, the French star Kylian Mbappé, forward for Real Madrid, has made strong statements responding to critics of his performance last season, particularly regarding his defensive duties and his chances of competing for the Ballon d’Or.

Mbappé: “I don’t see any player who has outperformed me”

In a comprehensive interview with «L’Équipe» newspaper and «France Football» magazine, Mbappé stood firmly by his individual level, stating clearly: “I don’t see any player who was better than me last season.” These remarks come amidst a constant debate over the criteria for choosing the best player in the world.

Response to “defensive criticism”

When asked about the criticism regarding his decreased defensive contribution, the French international stressed that player evaluation should not be limited to that aspect alone. He explained that his offensive contributions and his decisive ability to score goals and make a difference remain the pillars of his strength, noting that tactical roles change based on systems and coaches.

The price of stardom

Mbappé spoke candidly about the “price of stardom,” asserting that fans and media often overlook the consistent achievements of a player who maintains a high level for many years, in favor of focusing excessively on shortcomings. He affirmed that his tactical evolution and ability to adapt to the requirements of clubs and national teams are an integral part of his professional career.

A promising start in Madrid

On another note, Mbappé continues to shine since his move to Real Madrid this season, managing to score five goals in his first five matches, split between La Liga and the Champions League. Despite lacking collective titles in his final season elsewhere, he has left a historic mark as the first player to be the top scorer of the World Cup in two consecutive editions, while also ranking as the all-time top scorer in the competition with 22 goals.
