Details of the armed confrontation in Al Hoceima

The Public Prosecutor at the Court of Appeal in Al Hoceima has revealed the details of the tragic incident that shook the city, resulting in the martyrdom of a police officer during a security operation aimed at arresting an individual with a serious criminal record, who was wanted for major national offenses related to international drug trafficking, forming a criminal gang, and organizing illegal immigration.

Sequence of events and escalation

According to the Public Prosecutor’s statement, the operation on September 7, 2026, began when judicial police services tracked the suspect’s movements. During the raid, the suspect confronted security forces using a hunting rifle, leading to the death of a police officer in the field and wounding two gendarmes and one civilian. Security forces were forced to use their service weapons in the context of self-defense, which led to the suspect being wounded and arrested.

Attempt to obstruct and arrest of perpetrators

The confrontation did not end there, as members of the same gang attempted to intervene to free their leader by using vehicles and firing on security personnel. However, the expertise of the security elements enabled them to bring the situation under control and arrest the individuals involved, including two persons captured inside a clinic. All were placed under police custody, and the weapon used along with a drone in their possession were seized.

Prosecutor’s Office warns against spreading rumors

The Public Prosecutor emphasized the necessity of obtaining information from official sources, while debunking false news being circulated on social media in bad faith. They affirmed that the judicial institution is committed to the strict application of the law and the protection of law enforcement officers, noting that judicial investigations are ongoing to determine full legal consequences for the detainees and anyone proven to be involved in this criminal act.
