Teacher escapes attempted assault in Bab Berred: Suspect in police custody

Incident sparks terror among female teachers in “Bab Berred”
At the start of the new school year, the Bab Berred region in the Chefchaouen province was shaken by a horrific incident: a teacher was the victim of an attempted assault while commuting to her workplace in a remote area. The event has brought to the forefront demands from educational actors for better security guarantees for staff working in isolated regions.
Details of the incident and rapid security response
Abdelouahab Sehimi, an educator and unionist, confirmed that the teacher was on her way to work when she was stopped by a car driven by someone posing as an informal transport driver. Once inside, she was shocked by his attempt to physically assault her in a secluded area of the road, but she managed to convince him to stop and drop her off in an area known as “El Krouchi”, before the attacker fled.
Despite the shock and the victim’s inability to record the full license plate number, the Royal Gendarmerie in Bab Berred moved in record time after receiving the complaint. Intensive field investigations led to the identification and arrest of the suspect, who has been placed in police custody under direct instructions from the competent public prosecutor to investigate the circumstances of the incident.
Warnings against recurring violence against female educators
Drawing on his professional experience in these mountainous regions, Sehimi warned that this incident is not the first of its kind, pointing to similar cases recorded in the past. In this context, he urged all female teachers working in remote areas to exercise maximum caution and avoid using informal transport, while calling on the relevant authorities to intensify security patrols to ensure the safety of educational staff during their daily commutes.
