Public Prosecution sets a legal roadmap to ensure election integrity

Comprehensive mobilization of the Moroccan judiciary ahead of the 2026 cycle

In a proactive move to strengthen confidence in constitutional institutions, the Presidency of the Public Prosecution has launched a national mobilization involving all public prosecution offices at courts of appeal and courts of first instance, in preparation for the legislative elections scheduled for September 23, 2026. These directives underscore the pivotal role the judiciary plays in ensuring the security and integrity of the electoral process.

The Public Prosecution: A safeguard for Moroccan election integrity

The King’s Public Prosecutor at the Court of Cassation and President of the Public Prosecution emphasized, in a circular addressed to judicial officials, that democratic practice is fundamentally based on free and transparent elections, as stipulated by Article 11 of the Constitution. The judicial head insisted that the Public Prosecution must firmly and strictly address any practices that could mar the electoral process or influence the will of the voters.

Practical guidelines for upholding the rule of law

The circular includes a set of executive measures aimed at:

  • Handling all election-related complaints with the necessary speed and effectiveness.
  • Activating punitive provisions and bringing lawbreakers to justice immediately.
  • Ensuring a standby system throughout the election period to guarantee a rapid response to reports.
  • Enhancing close coordination between regional/local cells and the central cell of the Public Prosecution, in addition to strict security coordination.

The commitment to credibility and fair competition

The Presidency of the Public Prosecution confirms that the ultimate goal of these measures is to create a legal and institutional environment that protects the democratic process from any external influence or illegal practices. The Presidency also called on all public prosecutors to strictly adhere to the circular’s contents, affirming that these steps are intended to bolster the Moroccan citizen’s trust in the ballot box and ensure that elections are characterized by absolute credibility and integrity.
