Qualitative operation by the Royal Gendarmerie dismantles an international smuggling network in Laâyoune
On Sunday morning, the Regional Command of the Royal Gendarmerie in Laâyoune dealt a heavy blow to international drug trafficking networks by successfully thwarting an attempt to smuggle a massive quantity of ‘Chira’ (cannabis resin) via the city’s coast.
Details of the security intervention
Based on precise intelligence provided by the Regional Intelligence Service, security forces identified suspicious movements aimed at carrying out an international smuggling operation. Through tight coordination, Royal Gendarmerie units arrived at the scene. The resistance encountered forced the security forces to use live ammunition to regain control and halt the criminal plan.
The operation resulted in the seizure of over a ton and a half of hashish and the arrest of ten individuals directly involved. Auxiliary Forces also participated effectively in the operation by cordoning off and securing the area, contributing to the success of the intervention.
Proactive security against organized crime
This operation is part of the strategy adopted by the Regional Command of the Royal Gendarmerie, which is based on informational proactivity and constant technical and field surveillance of the coastline. This strike follows recent record seizures of cocaine, confirming the readiness of security forces to counter cross-border crime.
In addition to combating drugs, security services, supported by the Auxiliary Forces, are intensifying their efforts against illegal migration networks, having successfully reduced clandestine sailing attempts and dismantled several active cells.
