Algerian fires burn down claims of regional power

An endless hell: Algeria under the weight of fires and management failure

Horror scenes have returned to dominate the landscape in Algeria, as vast areas of the northern and eastern provinces have turned into an open hell, consuming everything in its path. These fires were not just a fleeting natural disaster, but a stark reflection of the structural fragility the Algerian regime suffers from in crisis management. The death toll has risen to 12, bringing the total for this summer to 18 victims, in a scene that repeats the tragedies of past years without any lessons being learned.

The Algerian regime: Between the “conspiracy narrative” and field impotence

While flames surrounded villages and forced families to take refuge in mosques and schools to escape suffocation, the Algerian regime chose to run forward, as is its custom. Instead of acknowledging the shortcomings in field equipment, security and judicial services rushed to play the “conspiracy and foreign hand” card, arresting 11 people in a desperate attempt to absorb popular anger and cover up the severe deficit in dealing with 193 simultaneous fires.

The scandal of planes and drones: Promises for media consumption only

This tragedy has exposed the deep gap between the official propaganda that bragged about purchasing fleets of Russian firefighting planes and advanced drones, and the field reality that showed massive impotence in rugged terrain. The Algerian citizen found himself alone against the fire, amid an acute shortage of advanced firefighting centers and the almost total absence of firebreaks or forest management, proving that the Algerian regime’s investments go toward an arms race to threaten neighbors rather than protecting the lives and property of its citizens.

Crisis management: Running forward

The announcement of national mourning and the lowering of flags for three days cannot mask the fact that the Algerian regime continues to rely on a policy of opacity instead of radical reform. The fires that broke out in 16 provinces are the inevitable result of a lack of preventive planning and weak infrastructure. As forest fire hotspots continue to flare, the question remains: how long will the Algerian citizen continue to pay the price for political incompetence and the regime’s obsession with creating imaginary enemies instead of building a state capable of protecting its people?
