El Jadida Court of Appeal rules in ‘Uncle’s Wife’ case and reduces sentence for young man from Sidi Bennour

The Correctional Chamber of the El Jadida Court of Appeal has closed the book on a complex moral case that shook public opinion in the Sidi Bennour province. The court reduced the initial sentence imposed on a young man accused of complicity in adultery with his uncle’s wife, sentencing him to 18 months of imprisonment instead of two years.

Details of the scandal and the illicit affair

The case began after a complaint was filed by the husband (the uncle) with the relevant security services, following strong suspicions of an illicit relationship between his wife and her nephew. These suspicions were confirmed when the wife was found to be three months pregnant, prompting the husband to seek judicial intervention.

Contradictions and the collapse of the coercion scenario

During the investigation, the wife initially claimed that she had been assaulted and threatened with a blade by her nephew inside the marital home. However, this story crumbled under questioning, and she eventually confessed that the relationship was entirely consensual and had occurred on multiple occasions within the home.

Defendant’s maneuvers and husband’s withdrawal of complaint

Meanwhile, the defendant initially admitted to the relationship but later denied all charges before the investigating judge, claiming the accusations were a setup intended to retaliate against him over a dispute regarding his mother’s inheritance. Although the husband withdrew his complaint against his wife, resulting in the dismissal of charges against her, the public prosecutor continued the case against the young man, whose sentence was reduced to 18 months in the appellate ruling.
