Details of the arrest of a famous businessman in El-Mahalla for foreign currency trading

Intensive security operations lead to the arrest of a prominent businessman in El-Mahalla el-Kobra
The city of El-Mahalla el-Kobra has witnessed heightened security measures following a targeted operation against one of the most prominent businessmen and fabric merchants in the region, as part of efforts by relevant authorities to combat financial crimes and protect the national economy.
The arrest followed precise investigations that proved his involvement in foreign currency trading outside official channels, an activity strictly regulated by the Central Bank. The investigations also extended to reveal suspicions regarding his extensive activities in the real estate market.
Investigation details and suspicious properties under the microscope
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect was managing huge and unjustified sums of money, with a series of suspicious real estate transactions detected recently. Among these transactions currently under review are the purchase of a strategic property in the Shukri al-Quwatli area, as well as another property located next to the Baladiyat El-Mahalla Club.
Informed sources confirmed that competent authorities are currently examining all documents and financial data related to these properties to identify the true source of funds and determine if they are the result of illicit activities or money laundering.
Future of the investigations
Legal authorities are continuing their detailed investigation to determine the actual volume of the suspect’s financial activity. It is expected that more details will be revealed in the coming days, once the audit committees finish reviewing all seized documents.
This step comes within the context of a widespread security campaign taking place across various Egyptian governorates to regulate the exchange market, eliminate illegal practices that affect the stability of the national currency, and strictly enforce the law against all those involved.
