Royal Navy intercepts migrant boat carrying 201 people

Continuous security efforts to secure Moroccan coasts
As part of the ongoing efforts by the Royal Armed Forces, specifically the Royal Navy units, elements successfully intercepted a traditional boat on Saturday carrying 201 candidates for irregular migration. The operation was carried out 185 kilometers southwest of the city of Dakhla, an area subject to rigorous maritime surveillance.
Operation details
Well-informed sources reported that the boat was heading towards the Spanish Canary Islands, taking advantage of weather conditions and the region’s geographical location. Upon detection, Royal Navy units intervened immediately to provide assistance to the migrants, who were in a difficult situation. They were secured and transported to the nearest port in the Kingdom, in accordance with applicable security and legal measures.
This operation highlights the pivotal role the Royal Navy plays in countering human trafficking networks. Field experience has demonstrated high efficiency in monitoring and proactive intervention, contributing to saving lives from the risks of drowning in the Atlantic Ocean, as well as protecting national borders.
Morocco’s strategy against irregular migration
This operation is part of Morocco’s comprehensive strategy to combat irregular migration, which extends beyond security to include regional and international cooperation. The city of Dakhla serves as a strategic observation point where Moroccan authorities have intensified air and sea patrols to curb the criminal activities of human trafficking networks.
The detainees will undergo standard administrative and legal procedures, while investigations continue under the supervision of the Public Prosecution to identify those responsible for organizing these illegal trips that put the lives of hundreds of young people at risk.
