Events of the New York final cost Argentina dearly: Here are the details

Disciplinary earthquake rocks Argentine football following the World Cup final
The FIFA Disciplinary Committee imposed a series of historical sanctions this Friday, following the riots and regrettable clashes that marred the 2026 World Cup final, held at the “New York New Jersey” stadium between Argentina and Spain.
Mass suspensions and fines for the “Albiceleste”
The FIFA decisions affected several stars of the Argentine national team and their technical staff. A 10-match suspension was imposed on Leandro Paredes, along with a $90,000 fine. Nahuel Molina was suspended for 7 matches with a similar fine. Technical staff member Roberto Ayala and player Thiago Almada were also sanctioned, while Spanish star “Gavi” was suspended for one match and fined $30,000, with confirmation that these suspensions will carry over to the next official matches.
Heavy collective sanctions against the Argentine Football Association
FIFA’s measures were not limited to the players; they delivered a major blow to the Argentine Football Association by imposing a massive fine exceeding $321,000. This decision followed a series of violations, including collective misconduct, unsportsmanlike messaging, and the recording of discriminatory and racist chants during the tournament.
Corrective measures and appeal deadline
As part of FIFA’s efforts to curb these phenomena, it was decided to deprive Argentina of half its stadium capacity for the next two home matches. A portion of the funds collected from the fines will be used to support anti-discrimination programs. The Disciplinary Committee has granted the concerned parties a period of only ten days to submit appeals in accordance with established international legal procedures.
