Urgent: Tetouan court sentences five taxi drivers to prison for ‘facilitating illegal migration’

The Court of First Instance in Tetouan has handed down prison sentences to five taxi drivers, after proving their involvement in facilitating illegal migration operations and transporting irregular migrants in the region.

Details of the judicial ruling

According to informed sources, the judiciary sentenced each of the five drivers to 6 months in prison, in addition to financial fines. They were prosecuted by the public prosecutor for charges related to “providing assistance to the movement of individuals in order to facilitate their departure from the national territory illegally.”

Circumstances of the arrest and security investigations

The case stems from intensive field operations carried out by the security services in the Tetouan prefecture to curb illegal migration. The individuals were caught in the act of transporting irregular migration candidates in their taxis toward known gathering points or nearby beaches for planned departures.

Security crackdown on human smugglers

This ruling reflects the great firmness with which the Moroccan authorities are confronting all attempts to engage in illegal migration networks. It also serves as a clear warning to transport professionals, urging them to avoid providing any assistance or transport services to candidates for illegal migration to avoid prosecution and severe prison sentences.
