Google smartwatch detects insulin resistance and blood pressure early

Tech giant Google is preparing to revolutionize the world of wearables by developing advanced health tools branded as «Health Guardian». These tools go beyond traditional fitness tracking, diving deep into accumulated data analysis to monitor vital health patterns with high precision, most notably sensitive blood pressure indicators.

The new platform provides periodic and personalized assessments and alerts, giving users a genuine opportunity to improve their daily lifestyle and prevent health risks before they escalate. This trend reflects a clear desire to make modern technology a daily protective shield for individual health.

Immediate response to respiratory emergencies

Beyond routine tracking, the platform includes an exceptional feature for rapid response to emergency situations. The watch can intelligently detect any sharp and sudden drop in blood oxygen saturation levels.

In the event of a real risk, the watch alerts the user through a combination of vibrations, visual notifications, and audible alerts. If the user does not intervene within a specified period, a countdown begins that ends by automatically calling emergency services and pre-defined emergency contacts.

Early detection of insulin resistance and metabolic health

The feature to track «metabolic health» indicators and insulin resistance is one of the most notable upcoming innovations. This technology relies on analyzing the complex relationship between heart rate, physical activity levels, and sleep quality.

To ensure the accuracy of these results, Google developed this technology in strategic collaboration with «Quest Diagnostics», based on extensive scientific research that compared wearable device data with actual laboratory blood test results. It is worth noting that a scientific study recently published in the prestigious journal «Nature» confirmed the reliability of daily smartwatch data in predicting and monitoring insulin resistance indicators in their early stages.

Important note: Not a substitute for a doctor

Despite the significant qualitative leap this platform offers, Google has explicitly emphasized that «Health Guardian» tools are not considered a definitive substitute for medical examinations or specialized consultations.

The company asserts that the appearance of any abnormal results via the watch necessitates a visit to a specialist doctor to confirm the status through precise laboratory tests.

Release dates and supported devices

Google is expected to start rolling out blood pressure and metabolic indicator tracking features on a large scale to include «Pixel Watch 3», «4», and «5», in addition to selected devices from the «Fitbit» brand, during the autumn of 2026.

Conversely, the respiratory emergency response feature will be exclusive in its first phase to «Pixel Watch 4» and «5» in specific geographic markets, subject to regulatory approvals in each country.
