DGST thwarts terrorist attack in Tangier

As part of the ongoing security efforts to neutralize the risks posed by terrorist organizations threatening the security of the Kingdom and the safety of citizens, the judicial police services in Tangier, acting on precise intelligence provided by the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST), arrested a 22-year-old extremist on Friday, who was active within the “Daesh” terrorist organization.

Searches and seizure of suspicious materials

According to a statement issued by the Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ), the searches conducted led to the seizure of documents containing criminal methods related to cyber-intrusion.

The searches also led to the seizure of electronic devices, including a modified phone connected to electrical wires, as well as other equipment such as welding machines, batteries, tape, nails, electrical switches, and welding goggles. Furthermore, solid and liquid chemicals were seized on suspicion of being used to manufacture explosives; these have been sent for technical and scientific analysis to determine their precise composition and intended use.

Preliminary investigations and potential links

Preliminary findings indicate that the suspect was actively preparing to execute terrorist projects within the Kingdom, following a series of preliminary experiments involving the preparation of explosive devices.

Consequently, the individual has been placed in police custody under the supervision of the public prosecutor’s office specializing in terrorism, with the aim of uncovering all suspected subversive projects and determining the existence of any national or international links.
