National Council of the USFP officially decides to join the next government majority

Decision finalized on government participation
In a major organizational move, the National Council of the Socialist Union of Popular Forces (USFP), during its meeting held this Saturday, October 10, 2026, in Rabat, decided to participate in the formation of the upcoming government. The meeting was dedicated to assessing the political and electoral phase the party has passed through, as well as holding an extensive discussion on its expected position in the ongoing political consultations.
Mandate for Driss Lachgar to manage negotiations
The National Council meeting resulted in authorizing the First Secretary of the party, Driss Lachgar, to officially negotiate on behalf of the USFP regarding the offer of government participation and to define the methodology and nature of the government architecture. This mandate aims to present the party’s proposals for assuming government responsibilities with competence, integrity, and real ability to achieve results through its party cadres.
Background and motives of the Party of the Rose
The party explained in its final statement that the decision to participate is primarily based on its electoral program, which outlined objectives for just and equitable development for citizens. The Council also took into account the degree of convergence in values and political choices with the Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM), which leads the government formation process, alongside other political forces involved in building the future majority.
Appreciation of constitutional methodology and the royal speech
At the institutional level, the National Council praised King Mohammed VI’s implementation of the provisions of Article 47 of the Constitution by appointing the Head of Government from the party that topped the results of the House of Representatives elections. The party considered that the royal speech on the occasion of the opening of the twelfth legislative term constitutes a clear roadmap for future institutional work.
Evaluation of elections and legal challenges
In a related context, the Council extended its appreciation to all party candidates in the recent elections, congratulating the winners and affirming that the efforts of the other candidates constitute an important militant asset. The leadership also emphasized the necessity of evaluating the irregularities observed during the electoral campaign and documenting them accurately, while fully upholding the right to resort to the Constitutional Court by submitting appeals according to the applicable legal procedures.
