Sidi Slimane Provincial Council explores radical solutions to medical specialist shortage

Idriss Roubio, Governor of Sidi Slimane Province, chaired an expanded meeting dedicated to evaluating the healthcare sector in the province. The goal was to identify the main obstacles affecting the quality of health services and explore ways to accelerate hospital projects and strengthen health offerings to meet the growing needs of the population.
Direct discussion on the reality of the healthcare system
The meeting was attended by Ibrahim Lakhal, General Director of the Territorial Health Group for the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region, along with various officials and representatives of the relevant institutions. The meeting served as an opportunity to open a direct discussion on the state of the healthcare system, regarding human resources, equipment, and infrastructure.
The participants discussed the shortage recorded in certain medical and paramedical specialties and the need to strengthen the presence of doctors and specialized nursing staff to improve patient care and reduce referrals to hospitals outside the province.
Rehabilitating the provincial hospital and accelerating construction
The current provincial hospital received special attention, with an emphasis on the need to equip it with essential medical tools, particularly in radiology and medical analysis, as well as addressing recurring breakdowns in basic equipment that affect the normal operation of health services.
It was emphasized that resolving current imbalances cannot be limited to temporary interventions, but requires accelerating programmed hospital projects, primarily the new provincial hospital for Sidi Slimane, which is expected to create a qualitative shift in the province’s health supply.
Local projects to make health services accessible
The project for the local hospital in Sidi Yahya El Gharb was a key focus, as the work progress has reached about 70%. The need to accelerate remaining works was stressed so that the facility could enter into service as soon as possible, contributing to reducing pressure on existing health institutions.
Regarding the health situation in Sidi Yahya El Gharb, points were raised regarding the emergency department of the current health center, with an emphasis on addressing noted deficiencies and providing an ambulance to improve responsiveness to urgent cases.
Field work and future outlook
The meeting did not stop at the theoretical side; the discussion shifted to the field through a visit made by the General Director of the Territorial Health Group, accompanied by officials, to the current provincial hospital, to observe working conditions and the state of the facilities closely.
This meeting reflects a trend toward moving from diagnosing problems to seeking practical, actionable solutions, especially regarding strengthening human resources, providing equipment, and improving coordination between various stakeholders.
