Ouzzine refuses for the Popular Movement to be a ‘filler number’ and demands efficiency in government action

Mohamed Ouzzine, Secretary-General of the Popular Movement (MP), affirmed that his party’s participation in the next government majority is not tied to obtaining ministerial portfolios or specific positions, but rather depends on the government program’s ability to fulfill the commitments the party made to its voters during the elections.

The electoral contract at the heart of the government debate

Ouzzine’s statements came during the extraordinary National Council of the party held on Saturday, where he placed the contents of the Movement’s electoral contract at the core of the discussion regarding participation in the upcoming government. He clarified that the party does not demand any specific position for managing public affairs, provided that any government offer includes the minimum commitments pledged to the citizens.

Categorical refusal of the ‘filler number’ role

The Secretary-General emphasized that his party completely refuses to enter the government just to complete the majority numbers, asserting that the party “is not prepared to be a supplementary number” within the government coalition. He added that election promises cannot, under any circumstances, be turned into mere bargaining chips for ministerial positions.

Criteria of efficiency and the government program

According to the data provided by Ouzzine, the criterion for participation is not measured by the distribution of portfolios, but is closely linked to the content of the government program and the actual capacity to translate the electoral contract into practical policies and measures. Conversely, the Secretary-General showed clear flexibility regarding the conditions for participation, confirming that there are no complex red lines and that the discussion is primarily focused on the impact and efficiency of government work.

Context of consultations with Fatima-Zahra Mansouri

These firm positions of the Popular Movement come amid the consultations led by the designated head of government, Fatima-Zahra Mansouri, to form the new majority. The Movement’s leadership held an official meeting with her on September 30, after which Ouzzine stated that the discussions led to a shared conviction on the importance of creating a positive break from the previous phase and opening a new horizon for government management.
